Psycho (1960)


Psycho is by far one of the most famous serial killer movies out there, and for a good reason. It follows the same pattern as Silence of the Lambs in that both are about FBI trainees getting information from imprisoned killers to catch another killer. However, this movie is different because it’s told from two very different perspectives. There’s Janet Leigh, who finds herself in the trunk of her car. Norman Bates lives with his mother in the Bates Motel. He also happens to be a serial killer who wears his victims’ skin. This classic thriller is directed by Alfred Hitchcock and follows Marion Crane, who stops at the Bates Motel after stealing money from her boss. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1978)

This film is based on the true story of a serial killer, Ed Gein. Although the character in this movie isn’t directly based on him, you can see his influence throughout. Zodiac (2007)

The Zodiac Killer was a serial murderer who stalked and killed people in the San Francisco Bay Area. He murdered seven people throughout his murderous spree. Two people try to decipher a series of cryptic codes left behind by a serial killer known as the Zodiac Killer. This movie is based on the true story of a serial killer who stalked and killed people in San Francisco based on actual events. He sent taunting letters to local newspapers and even claimed to have murdered thirty-seven people. But did he? That’s what two men set out to find out before the killer strikes again.

Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil, and Vile

This movie is based on the famous killer Ted Bundy that murdered no less than thirty people. Played by Zac Efron, we see the story through his girlfriend, Liz Kendall (played by Lily Collins). The film follows Ted Bundy’s life as he moves from a young look and promising law student working at a suicide hotline to one of America’s most infamous serial killers. This film follows the crimes of Bundy from the perspective of his girlfriend, who was also a murder victim.

American Psycho (2000)

The story of a successful Wall Street yuppie who moonlights as a serial killer. Patrick Bateman (played by Christian Bale) spends time stalking the streets, taking drugs, and killing people who stand in his way or disappoint him. As he kills more and more people, we see how it affects his relationships with friends and family members.


If you’re into serial killers, these are the movies for you. If not, don’t bother watching them because they will probably give you nightmares.
