Urban Meyer is one of the most successful college football coaches of all time. He won three national championships, two with the Florida Gators and one with the Ohio State Buckeyes.
Who is Urban Meyer?
Meyer was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1964. He played college football at the University of Cincinnati as a defensive back. After graduating from Cincinnati, Meyer began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Ohio State. He then went on to coach as an assistant at Colorado State, Utah, and Bowling Green.
In 2001, Meyer was hired as the head coach of the Bowling Green Falcons. He led the Falcons to a 17-6 record in two seasons. In 2003, Meyer was hired as the head coach of the Utah Utes. He led the Utes to a perfect 12-0 record and a Fiesta Bowl victory in his first season.
Meyer’s coaching career
In 2005, Meyer was hired as the head coach of the Florida Gators. He quickly turned the Gators into a national contender. In his second season, Meyer led the Gators to a 13-1 record and a victory over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2006 BCS National Championship Game.
Meyer led the Gators to another national championship in 2008, defeating the Oklahoma Sooners in the BCS National Championship Game. He also led the Gators to two SEC championships in 2006 and 2008.
In 2012, Meyer was hired as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes. He led the Buckeyes to a 12-0 record and a victory over the Oregon Ducks in the 2014 College Football Playoff National Championship Game. Meyer also led the Buckeyes to three Big Ten championships in 2014, 2017, and 2018.
Meyer stepped down as the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes in 2018. He was hired as the head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, but he resigned after only one season.
Meyer’s national championships
Meyer won his first national championship in 2006 with the Florida Gators. The Gators defeated the Ohio State Buckeyes in the BCS National Championship Game, 41-14.
Meyer won his second national championship in 2008 with the Florida Gators. The Gators defeated the Oklahoma Sooners in the BCS National Championship Game, 24-14.
Meyer won his third national championship in 2014 with the Ohio State Buckeyes. The Buckeyes defeated the Oregon Ducks in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game, 42-20.

Meyer’s legacy is somewhat tarnished by the fact that he resigned from his coaching position at Ohio State in 2018 after it was revealed that he had known about allegations of domestic violence against one of his assistant coaches but had not taken appropriate action.
Despite this, Meyer remains one of the most respected coaches in college football history. He is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame and the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.
