Ellsworth Raymond Johnson was born on the 31st of October 1905 in Charleston, South Carolina, United States, and died on the 7th of July 1968 in Harlem, Manhattan, New York City, New York, United States.
Johnson was a close associate of the numbers Queen Madame Stephanie St. Clair. He became St . Clair’s main lieutenant during the 1930s. Johnson as well as St. Clair aimed to launch an armed conflict with New York mob boss Dutch Schultz. The war resulted into over 40 deaths as well as numerous kidnappings. Johnson was the subject of an indictment in the United States for drug-related conspiracy at the time of his death from cardiac failure due to congestive on the afternoon of July 7 1968 aged 62. Johnson was in the Wells Restaurant located in Harlem at around 2 a.m. The waitress was serving the man coffee and a leg of chicken and hominy grits after which he fell, clutching his chest. The body is buried at Woodlawn Cemetery in The Bronx, New York City.
