The Cowboys signed Lee to a four-year, $3.49 million contract on June 23, 2010. He received a $1.71 million signing bonus and $1.20 million in guaranteed money. Training camp injuries limited his playing time, and he never got into the game.

In Week 14’s matchup with Peyton Manning and the Indianapolis Colts, Lee recorded the first two interceptions of his NFL career, returning one for a touchdown and the other in overtime to set up the game-winning field goal, earning him the titles of NFL Defensive Player of the Week and Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week.

When new defensive coordinator Rob Ryan took over the defense in 2011, Lee was thrust into the starting lineup at inside linebacker, where he excelled instantly.

Lee picked off Mark Sanchez for the third time in his career in the season opener against the New York Jets. In the last minute of the Cowboys’ 18-16 comeback against the Washington Redskins on Monday Night Football, his interception of Rex Grossman and fumble recovery were huge.

Lee was named NFC Defensive Player of the Month for the third week of the season for his 36 tackles, two interceptions, two fumble recoveries, one tackle for a loss, and three pass breakups. The Cowboys had never had a player win the honor before, and he made history by doing so.

Lee dislocated his left wrist in the first quarter of the seventh game of the 2011 season against the Philadelphia Eagles at Lincoln Field, but he decided against undergoing season-ending surgery. Lee finished the season with 51 tackles, 15 more than Gerald Sensabaugh (second place, 36 total tackles).

As the only player on the squad to record multiple interceptions through the first seven games, his three were far and away the most. In the previous game, Lee had a wrist injury and was forced to sit out the eighth game of the season.

Lee was a pivotal contributor to the Cowboys’ 13-3 record in 2016, thanks to their stellar defense. For the first time in his career, he made First-team All-Pro as a linebacker after finishing second in tackles only to Bobby Wagner. To replace the injured Luke Kuechly, a linebacker for the Carolina Panthers, he was named to the Pro Bowl for the second year.

He Re-signed with the Cowboys on March 24, 2020. Lee agreed to a one-year deal worth $4.5 million, with $2 million guaranteed. On September 7, 2020, he was transferred to the injured reserve list.

Lee had sports hernia surgery on September 16, 2020, and will be out for at least six weeks. On October 31, he was activated and played in the final nine games of the season, recording 20 tackles.

Lee stated that he would leave his position on April 26, 2021. By the time he retired, Lee had played for the Cowboys under Wade Phillips less than a handful of times, and none of those games were in the last season.
